VULCAN MATERIALS: BUILDING LOCAL IMPACT THROUGH SMART CORPORATE GIVING
For 75 years, Vulcan Materials Company has played a foundational role in shaping the Bluegrass region. Through roads, bridges and other essential infrastructure, the company has been part of the region’s growth from the ground up.
Today, Vulcan is also helping build something else: long-term community investment.
In 2025, Vulcan gave more than $32,000 to the Fund for Greater Lexington at BGCF through the Endow Kentucky Tax Credit program. The Fund for Greater Lexington is an endowed fund that supports community priorities across Fayette County, with grants directed by an advisory committee of local leaders. The gift reflects a strategic approach to corporate philanthropy, one that pairs tax advantages with lasting local impact.
“Once we recognized the significant impact this fund could have on the community, Vulcan committed the maximum allowable amount that a corporation can give for our tax liability to the Fund for Greater Lexington,” said Carol Landrum, manager of community relations at Vulcan. “Getting involved with the Fund for Greater Lexington is a natural fit that complements our commitment to the communities we serve. By partnering with the Fund for Greater Lexington, we can amplify our efforts far beyond what we could ever achieve by ourselves.”
That investment is already helping advance Kelley’s Landing, a new park that gives Fayette County its first public riverfront access to the Kentucky River. The project holds special meaning for Vulcan because of its proximity to the company’s Richmond operation.
Vulcan has since expanded that commitment. Through 2026 Endow Kentucky Tax Credits, the company is pledging at least $25,000 to fund the Kelley’s Landing Endowment Fund, a permanent resource dedicated to the maintenance and ongoing support of the park for years to come.
“We believe that through this endowment and through the Fund for Greater Lexington, there will be an impact that will last generations,” said Benton Nighbert, sales representative for Vulcan. “We just want to leave Lexington better than we found it.” Vulcan’s partnership with the Fund for Greater Lexington shows how businesses can use the Endow Kentucky Tax Credit to strengthen the places where they live and work. By giving through a community fund, companies can respond to local opportunities today while helping build permanent resources for the future.
