Harrison County Community Fund: Reopening Public Spaces
As downtown Cynthiana reopened, the Harrison County Community Fund quickly mobilized to establish a fund to aid small businesses. By partnering with the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky (CEDIK) at the University of Kentucky, Cynthiana Main Street and the mayor of Cynthiana, the fund awarded over $17,000 to help 10 businesses reopen safely.
This renewed downtown activity was the catalyst for the Pocket Park, a city-owned green space in downtown Cynthiana. Thanks to the support of these partners, the Pocket Park is being developed into a sustainable, inviting space with lighting, patio heaters, seating and shade canopies to provide a safe and vibrant gathering place.
This is a wonderful example of how Community Funds collaborate with community partners to make a lasting impact.
