What is A
Community Fund?

The Community Fund is a permanent charitable resource designed to support local causes and organizations. Through individual donations – large and small – a local advisory board is able to make grants to meet the needs and vision of the community. We partner with individuals, businesses and nonprofits to make Boyle County a better place to live, learn, work and play.

Spotlight: Doing Good
In Madison County

The madison county community fund invests in healthy, drug-free youth

With the help of the Madison County Community Fund, every sixth and third grader in the county will get the tools they need to say no to drugs. Too Good for Drugs, a ten-week, evidenced-based, interactive program, promotes healthy decision making—and happy, healthy lives.

This grant funding has been a collaborative effort. The partners include, the Madison County Board of Education; Berea Police Department; Richmond Police Department; Madison County Sherriff’s office; Richmond’s Mayor, Jim Barnes; Berea’s Mayor, Steven Connelly; the County Judge Executive, Reagan Taylor and Madison County ASAP program. The grant funding will continue to support the sixth grade curriculum, expand curriculum into third grade and place banners in all participating schools.

The Too Good For Drugs program is positive and very effective”, said Ken Clark, a teacher and trainer from the Berea Police Department. “We are grateful to the Madison County Community Fund and its board for their leadership and critical financial support”, Clark said. The Madison County Community Fund, a local, permanent, charitable endowment was established by local citizens for the perpetual benefit of the community to support local, civic and charitable causes.

This initial grant is being made in honor of Dr. John Flanagan. “All of this would not be possible if not for the efforts and persistence of founding Madison County Community Fund Advisory board member, Dr. John Flanagan”, said Jeff Fultz, Chairman of the Madison County Board of Advisors. The Board members, both past and present have dedicated themselves to the idea that one person can make a powerful impact but recognize that we have the greatest impact when the community works together.

The Madison County Community Fund is an affiliate fund of Blue Grass Community Foundation. Blue Grass Community Foundation works across Central and Appalachia Kentucky to create more generous, vibrant and engaged communities. It also helps individuals, families, businesses, communities and nonprofit organizations establish charitable funds and endowments to support causes they care about, meet evolving community needs and make a difference.

The Too Good For Drugs program is positive and very effective...We are grateful to the Madison County Community Fund and its board for their leadership.
