Our History

Blue Grass Community Foundation is the legacy of a visionary Lexington couple—Irene and C.W. Sulier—who created a permanent endowment for our community in 1967. The aspirations for their gift were simple. They hoped their fund would grow to support diverse community needs over time and that others with charitable intent might be encouraged to join them.

The Suliers’ dreams have been more than realized. Since 1967, scores of charitably minded individuals, families, communities, businesses and nonprofits have followed in their footsteps, creating hundreds of charitable funds at Blue Grass Community Foundation. And over the years, through the support of these generous donors, we've awarded tens of millions of dollars in area grants, which help the community every day.

Today donors have come to know Blue Grass Community Foundation as the go-to place for charitable giving and engagement. They know they can rely on our caring and professional staff to help them establish charitable funds and endowments to accomplish their unique giving goals. They know we link donors to the causes they care about—connecting their passions to the power of philanthropy.

Most of us are anxious and willing to do something worthwhile, not only while we are  living but carrying through after life has ended, for the area in which we have lived happily with our families.  The Community Foundation is the ideal vehicle.
