What is Give 8/28 Lex?
Give 8/28 Lex is a one-day giving campaign powered by the Lexington Black Prosperity Initiative at Blue Grass Community Foundation. Held each year on August 28 during Black Philanthropy Month, the campaign celebrates the legacy of Black generosity and supports Black-serving nonprofits that strengthen our community.

Give 8/28 Lex is a community-wide campaign that raises awareness, inspires generosity and invests in Black-serving nonprofits across Fayette County.
Connect with participating nonprofits, enjoy local food trucks and live entertainment, and celebrate the people, partnerships and generosity that make Lexington stronger. Stay for a headline performance by Lexington blues artist Tee Dee Young at 8pm.

How can nonprofits participate in Give 8/28 Lex?
Registration for the 2026 Give 8/28 Lex campaign is closed. Registration was open to Lexington-based, Black-serving 501(c)(3) public charities from February 17 to April 30. To be notified of future opportunities, please sign up for our mailing list by clicking the button below.
2025 Impact
Last year, the community came together to raise $234,956 in support of 40 Black-serving nonprofits across Fayette County. Fueled by more than $100,000 in matching funds and prizes, the 2025 campaign doubled 2024’s results—reaching twice as many organizations and inspiring hundreds of donors to give.
Since launching in 2023, Give 8/28 Lex has raised more than $350,000 for local organizations advancing opportunity in youth development, education, food justice, housing, public health, and community safety.
Give 8/28 Lex is part of the national Give 8/28 movement, a coordinated day of giving that marks historic milestones in Black history, including the ratification of the 13th Amendment in 1865 and the March on Washington in 1963.
