Fayette County Public Education Foundation Awards Grants to Support COVID-19 Relief for Students
May 1, 2020 (Lexington, Ky.) – Today, the Fayette County Public Education Foundation at Blue Grass Community Foundation announced that it has awarded more than $35,000 in grants to Fayette County Public Schools to assist with identified needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Fayette County Public Education Foundation is a permanent charitable endowment at Blue Grass Community Foundation for the purpose of providing aid to students of Fayette County Public Schools. The Fayette County Public Education Foundation is overseen by an advisory committee of community members and educators, with staff support from Blue Grass Community Foundation.
All FCPS principals were asked to submit a needs assessment to the Fayette County Public Education Foundation. Requests related to COVID-19 needs were approved, and any non-COVID-19 requests will be reviewed and decided upon at a later date.
“We are delighted to provide the additional support to the FCPS students and families in this unprecedented time of need,” said Stephanie Hong, advisory board chair of the Fayette County Public Education Foundation.
The grants awarded include:
Fayette County Public Schools: IAKSS Student Support Services will receive a $10,000 grant to provide students and their families with food access and basic needs, such as utility assistance.
Tates Creek High School will receive $8,270 to purchase 36 Chromebooks and support additional efforts to close the literacy gap.
Breckinridge Elementary will receive $7,500 for the Woodhill Feeding Program, which is providing 250 meals daily during the Covid-19 health crisis.
Bryan Station High School will receive $5,000 to stock the BSHS Defender Food Pantry.
Athens-Chilesburg Elementary will receive $2,000 for their Backpack Food program to provide students with a supply of food for weekends.
Alternative Support Programs will receive $2,000 to provide supplemental food, infant formula, diapers and other essential household supplies for its client families.
Success Academy will receive $1,000 to assist its students’ families who are now out of work and having difficulty making ends meet.
