Plans for implementing the priority projects, as well as other contributing projects, took form with the December 13, 2007 media release announcing the creation of the Center for Community Legacy Initiatives. The creation of the Center was made possible by a five-year $2.55 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and will be housed at the Blue Grass Community Foundation.
Through the Center, interested citizen and leaders from business, government, and the private sector will be able to keep alive not only the legacy projects identified through the community conversations, but also the collaborative form of civic engagement and decision-making that began with the initial call for legacy projects and the community workshops. To start converting the project ideas generated through the community conversations into reality, next steps include identifying clear benchmarks, timelines, funding, volunteer experts, and lead sponsoring organizations for each project.
